Sinai Pharmacy Residency About the Program

Our Mission and Purpose

The mission of the residency program is to create independent pharmacy practitioners who have the skills necessary to practice pharmacy in a variety of practice settings. Residents work towards this goal through the following set of skill developments:

  • Gain the skills and abilities necessary to independently and competently optimize pharmacotherapy outcomes in various settings.
  • Develop critical thinking and effective communication skills.
  • Provide optimal pharmacotherapy and improve patient safety as an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Instill confidence and improve leadership skills by expanding knowledge base and through education of other health-care professionals and patients.
  • Promote professional development through continued education and self-evaluation.

PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Purpose

PGY1 residency programs provide structured, advanced educational and training experiences to develop or enhance a pharmacist’s skills to provide pharmaceutical care to a diverse patient population. The expectation is that graduates of the program will be prepared to practice in patient care positions in a health-system environment or pursue entry into a PGY2 training program in the specialty area of their choosing and to achieve board certification.
