Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Champion

In January 2023, LifeBridge Health introduced the “J.E.D.I. Champion” initiative to recognize and honor team members who exemplify the core values of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion (J.E.D.I.). In the healthcare space, commitment to these values looks like:

  • Justice: A vigilant effort to ensure that fairness prevails regarding patient, visitor and team member rights.
  • Equity: Assurance that all individuals are provided adequate resources for success based on their unique circumstances.
  • Diversity: Representation of people of all races, ethnicities, genders and sexual orientations.
  • Inclusion: Opportunities for people of all races, ethnicities, genders and sexual orientations.

While team members who go above and beyond to positively impact these areas have always existed across our system, the J.E.D.I. Champion initiative marked a significant step towards intentionality and encouraging a more inclusive, equitable and diverse working environment.

Transformative Impacts
Since the announcement of our very first J.E.D.I. Champion, Ayesha Fowler, LifeBridge Health’s Office of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion has recognized Joseph Schultz, Dana Silver, Sue Pugh, Kirsten Ambrose, Sterling Kelly, Norbert Robinson, Lori Clark, Kristin Yates and Robbin Alexander. Here are some of the ways these team members are driving positive change across our organization:

Enhancing Cultural Competency
Working with LifeBridge Health’s employee resource groups (ERGs), our J.E.D.I. Champions have organized training sessions, workshops and dialogues that foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of our community’s diverse backgrounds. The resulting knowledge and empathy improve patient care and team collaboration.

Fostering an Inclusive Environment
By identifying and addressing systemic barriers to inclusion, J.E.D.I. Champions have made LifeBridge Health a place where everyone can thrive. Initiatives have included mentor and internship programs, inclusive policy revisions and the creation of spaces for open conversation about diversity and inclusion challenges.

Driving Policy and Process Changes
The influence of J.E.D.I. Champions extends into the structural aspects of LifeBridge Health as well. Their insights and advocacy lay the groundwork for policy and process changes, ensuring that justice and equity are integral to our operations.

Community Outreach and Engagement
J.E.D.I. Champions have also played a key role in strengthening LifeBridge Health’s connections with the communities we serve. Through outreach programs, health initiatives and partnerships with local organizations, they have helped bridge gaps in healthcare access and education, emphasizing the importance of equity in health outcomes.

The Road Ahead
As we reflect on the accomplishments of our J.E.D.I. Champions, it’s clear that their impact extends far beyond individual recognition. They are at the heart of LifeBridge Health’s culture, which embraces diversity as a strength and sees equity and inclusion as non-negotiable.

In prioritizing these values and recognizing the contributions of our team members, LifeBridge Health is not just making a statement; we are making a difference.
